Find out what kind of audience you are trying to write these pieces for too. Always remember that there are all kinds of people you can choose to market the book for. It is best to set a specification of the demographics you would want to focus on. This allows you to weave your story around the idea that they are for a certain set of readers to read and comprehend.

Research on the subject that you're trying to write too. Sure, it is not something that you're basing on actual event. But you have to make sure that the plot, the setting, the story line itself, is going to have a realist fee on it. Otherwise, it would be hard for your readers to relate to what is really going on in the story. Invest time on learning more of your subject so you get to write it better.

Always make it a point to carry a notebook wherever you go. Carry a pen along with it as well. This allows you to take note of some ideas and some things you would want to include in the story whenever they strike. There is no knowing really when inspiration is going to strike you. The key here is for you to take note of them since there is a good chance that you might forget them later on.

Write when the inspiration actually write something strikes you. One of the many mistakes that a lot aspiring writers make is that they seem to think that they can write something if they'll will themselves to. No, it does not work that way. If they actually want to be sure that they can come up with something productive, then it is best that they wait for the inspiration to kick in before they start typing.
