They are essentially what you need when you have a hobby of going out to find a body of water and kidnap all the inhabitants there for your own needs. Okay, we literally mean fishing if you did not get that. Those materials may be your saving grace in giving you a decent meal if you are desperate enough to actually leave the comforts of your home, grab a fishing line AND harass those living underwater. When you were a kid, have you ever thought how stupid fish are from watching all those cartoons about them biting the hook and getting grilled right after? First of all, why would they take a nibble out of that obvious trap in the first place? See the point? And then, okay, assuming that since they are animals, they cannot help but be seduced by the smell and they literally chomp the bit. When the fisher dude starts pulling and they get dangerously close to the surface, which by the way equals to imminent death, why did they just, oh maybe, let go?

As a kid, you have had to have thoughts like these, right? Well, to answer that query, and to satisfy our own little mystery, the reason they do not just let go like a decent and smart creature is that this literally is a hook. Meaning, as soon as their mouth surrounds that thing, the sharp part pierces through the cheek and traps you anyway.
