You will need specific round and flat brushes for this job. They should be long and with soft bristles. This will allow them to properly spread the paint onto the canvas. These bristles can either be made from synthetic or natural fibers, and the one you choose will depend on your budget. You can slowly start buying one at a time, so that you eventually the right sizes and quality.

You need to ensure that you buy good water color paints. These can come either as liquid, tube, or pan paints. If you want something portable, stay away from the liquid ones, as they easily spill. For a beginner, you may start by choosing a set, which offers you about twelve hues. As you progress, continue adding additional colors, depending on your preferences.

There are different types of paper currently available. Ideally, it should be heavy, so that is does no warp after you paint. The available papers are either hot pressed, textured, or smooth. The one you choose will affect how the end will result will appear. If you are an advanced painter, you may also choose to use canvas to do your work.

After you buy all the supplies, you will need a place to mix the different hues with water, and with other colors. In case you do not see the need to buy a pallet, you can use a white plate to do this. However, it is better to just buy one. This will allow you to play around with different colors. To mix water colors, you need water. If you trust your tap water, use it for mixing, but if you are hesitant, you should use bottled water. There are additional mediums like Arabica and ox gall, which are used to make your print more transparent, or glossy. You should, however, make sure you master the basics, before suing these mediums.

After buying all these, you will be ready to start creating works of art. Additionally, the stationery for making the sketches and the easels for placing the canvas, can also be sourced, but do not need to be bought immediately.
