The reason MixYour Drink.com came into being, was to give people an avenue to find some fantastic cocktail recipes, advice and tips on their favourite beers and spirits. We set out to give people an online portal to help them when it came to the what, when why and how of drinks. A question we were asked recently by some friends thinking of having a party, was should they supply drinks for a party or ask their guests to bring their own? We decided to take a look at that question:

Our immediate question back to the friends, was well what type of party, was it an engagement, weddings, birthday, general friends get together ?

There is a certain social expectation that some parties will be catered for.

Milestone Birthdays - Generally, are catered for on some level. so maybe a wine and beer package would be supplied, for an 18th or 21 st. With Spirits a BYO or buy at the bar. (depending on the location your having it in)

Engagements/Weddings - Again generally there is an expectation that it will be catered for with wine and beer package, sometime spirits in included but most often its acceptable to have people buy it at a bar.

Gathering of Friends - This is where you get to pick and choose a little bit, and intimate dinner party most people will turn up with a bottle of their favourite wine for the host.

As a drinks for a party idea, you could always throw a cocktail party, and ask your friends to bring a bottle of spirits each, then take turns in making cocktails. If you are struggling for cocktail ideas, you can either visit our drink recipe page, or buy a book on making amazing cocktails.

What ever you do with supplying or providing drinks for any party is to make sure that people are drinking responsibly at all times. Supplying drinks for a party really is your own choice, so never be affended or put out if you are asked to BYO. There is no better feeling then sharing your favourite drink with a friend.
